Lintrathen Loch

About five miles west of Kirriemuir, lies Lintrathen Loch. Or the Loch of Lintrathen, whichever way you want to put it. A well known local fishing spot, I fished here once. Not a particularly successful expedition, it has to be said. I went out in a boat with a friend of a friend, whom I'd never met before. Never a good idea to get into a wee boat about twelve feet long and spend the evening with a total stranger.......I learned this that evening.

After about an hours or two's fishing, it was becoming apparent that fishing was about the only thing we had in common, so in an effort to engender a spirit of camaraderie, I pulled a couple of beers from my bag and offered one to my companion.......
His reply 'No thanks.....I don't believe you should mix alcohol and boats'.....didn't really do much to improve the atmosphere.

So I pulled the ring pull, took a long swallow on the lager and said, 'Don't you now?'.......
We never went fishing together again....
.......And we never caught a fish.

  3. That's an amazing blue sky! (No more bitching about rain from you, Mr Tasker, mwahahaha!)

And look at all those sheeps. That still thrilled me five years on, living in Britain, hills and hills and hills of sheeps!

Nevermind a beer Neil, you should have offered a paddle. ;-)

  4. The colours are soooo deep and rich. Almost edible! Bit like that fish might have been if you'd had enough beer to last ...

  9. Fishing is such a dull pastime (unless you're a fish) that i would have thought alcohol, nembutol or erm....something a bit stronger, would be a compulsory component of a decent time. Arsehole tag, indeed, Neil. You shoulda rocked the boat. Literally.

  11. Ahh! Love it! Should have told him to fish or cut bait, lighten up, or be bait! (as we do here whenever we encounter dipshits)
but that's not why I'm commenting.
I noticed you're from Forfar - and I just bought some delicious cheddar from the Forfar Cheese Factory -about 60 km north of Kingston Ontario. So there you go.Scottish ancestors landed here..not sure if they fished though.

  12. Speaking of cheese and Scotland...

Neil... did you know that a Scottish dude who migrated to Canada is known as The Cheese Poet? (and also Canada's worse poet!) lol...

His poems are so bad they're great!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McIntyre_(poet)

    Ode on the Mammoth Cheese

    Weight over seven thousand pounds.

We have seen thee, queen of cheese,
    Lying quietly at your ease,
    Gently fanned by evening breeze,
Thy fair form no flies dare seize.

All gaily dressed soon you'll go
    To the great Provincial show,
To be admired by many a beau
    In the city of Toronto.

Cows numerous as a swarm of bees,
Or as the leaves upon the trees,
It did require to make thee please.
And stand unrivalled, queen of cheese.

May you not receive a scar as
We have heard that Mr. Harris
Intends to to send you off as far as
The great world's show at Paris.

Of the youth beware of these,
For some of them might rudely squeeze
And bite your cheek, then songs or glees
We could not sing, oh! queen of cheese.

    We'rt thou suspended from balloon,
You'd cast a shade even at noon,
Folks would think it was the moon
About to fall and crush them soon.
