Scotland's Best Phonebox

Following on from Scotland's most scenic dog shit bin post a couple of weeks ago, I'd like to put forward this phone box in GlenIsla as Scotland's most scenic place to make a leisurely phone call..... but only if you have a phonecard! As you can see from the sign on the door.... no coins accepted. Can't help thinking you may be a touch frustrated if you were up here and needed to make an urgent phone call and didn't have one...... let's face it, who does?

Nevertheless, you can't let a mere side issue like that detract from the fact that the situation of this phone box is pretty spectacular.

...... and don't you just love this old crooked signpost?

This is the view along the glen from the phone box. Check out the castley thing. Click to enlarge the pic.

They even provide a handy car park for those of us who wish to stop over to take some pics. Thoughtful or what?

So...... what do you think? Can anyone beat this? I throw down the gauntlet.........

  3. I was thinking of doing the same... but I was thinking of it as 'exploring my creativity'... ha!

    Yeah, I'm bored too. :-)

  4. Why don't you come round, we can crack a bottle open , pop some corn and watch a movie?

  5. Nope, no way can I beat that. Besides, now that cell phones are so popular, pay phones are even harder to find these days. Wonderful scenery.

  7. Love the matching postbox too. I didn't even know there were still red phoneboxes like that in many places still. I agree about the phonecard, quite bizarre!

  9. Damn, and I'm away for 5 weeks and I can't play in the challenge, as I'm damn sure there are no red telephone boxes in the desert......Plus of course, scenery and KSA do not go together ! I will watch with interest.....

  10. Absolutely tops Neil! We used to have these delightful and recognisable phone boxes and red pillar letterboxes which now are just historical memories. The old days of Post and Telegraph are long gone. I wonder, if this phone accepted coins, would you have the two large pennies readily to hand? Love the old electricity pole as well.
I wonder what Laird of the Glen built his strong-hold here, with beaautiful stone wall and a view down the glen. Paint in some woods and you have the perfect setting for a novel.

  12. For those of you not not up to speed with the Edinburgh tongue, I'll translate Naldo's comment........
'Yes Neil, I agree, it's a very nice phone box. However, I feel that perhaps I may point out that in order to purchase a delicious slice of Kirriemuir's finest baked ginger delicacy it would be necessary to travel 17 miles. I'll be buggered if I'm going to do that!'

    Clear now?

  14. P - A poor excuse.... I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find one. Have a good trip.

Arija - Two old pennies that weighed a ton! Remember the old A and B buttons you had to press? I'm glad someone spotted the old electricity poles too. They're still around in the really rural areas.
'Long, long ago in a remote Scottish glen, a heartbroken laird built a beatiful castle for his unrequited love......'
There... I've started it... you take it up now.

  15. It's always something that prevents us from getting connected, especially if you are a tourist. I had similar problems in Belgium on a recent visit.

  16. Getting clearer Neil... but what is Kirriemuir's finest baked ginger delicacy?

  17. Long long ago etc--- he made sure that when he installed his love in the castle she didn't have a phone card so couldn't "phone home" to be rescued. However he forgot about the post box and she posted an S O S (Save Our Sheila) did I not mention she was Australian. Unfortuneatly the bloody postal workers were on strike again and by the time her letter got home she'd set off on foot to Kirriemuir for some of their finest and was never heard of again.
