Driving into the Sky

The top pic shows the view as you approach the summit of the Bealach Na Ba, the highest mountain pass in the UK. Not the best quality as it's taken from inside the car on the move. Second pic shows one of the cairns near the summit and the view to the east. The pass reaches over 2,000 feet at the summit. Strongly reccommended to those who have never driven over it......but not for the faint hearted.

  1. Hey Neil... is this the pass near Applecross, where the Japanese tourist freaked out and stopped driving?

  3. The very same Toaster.... well remembered. Your geographical knowledge of Scotland is second to none now. Apparently they have a cycle race over it. Naldo... that's your forte isn't it? Get your entry in mate! Piece of piss.

  4. Yes it does Naldo. It's horrible that some people could take that scenery for granite.

  5. What a great looking place! It looks very remote and somehow that surprises me although I'm not sure why. Superb shot even if it was taken from the car! Have a great weekend, Neil!

  6. Ha! My knowledge of your blog is second to none; even you! I'm not sure that I could point to Bealach Na Ba on map.

  7. Looks interesting. Never been there but fancy a motorbike trip up the west coast. Would it be too scary on a bike?

  8. Gennasus - It's an absolute must if you're on the west coast... Especially on a motorbike. Go for it.

Sylvia - It is very remote. You wouldn't want to be waiting for a bus up there.

Toaster - Thanks for the crap pun. I'd respond if my half dead brain could think of one!

  10. Thats a great road to drive on, I was there in March this year, and it made for"interesting" driving .....there was also no way I was going to take my hands off the wheel to take pics either !!

  11. Years since I've been over there - thanks for the reminder.

  12. The second photo seems to make any type of drive worth it. Maybe I'd have to just look a different direction on the drive if my heart were too faint.

  13. 'O you’ll tak’ the high road and I’ll tak’ the low road' . . . that's about right. I don't care for vertiginous roads - but these sky shots would make it worthwhile for that clear, clean air.

  15. That road looks a bit scary to me Neil, but I sure will give it a go sometime. Thanks for your comment about my old neighbour, I know what you mean.
