Horses

Now horses and me don't really get along. I love them, but only from behind a fence, or a wall. Somewhere they can't really cause any physical damage to you. All those hooves and powerful legs and massive heads can cause some serious pain. Not too crazy about being five feet off the ground on their backs either. They have a mind of their own. So a bit of mutual respect is what's called for here.
This guy seemed friendly enough and I was trying to coax him towards me with handfuls of nice fresh grass, which he loved. But the owner came out and gave me it in the neck for feeding him. She said he wasn't the most amiable chap and was likely to take my fingers off in the process.
See? Never trust a horse!

Anyway, he took a major huff following this.......

  1. No, never foal around with a horse. But you came out unscathed, that's the mane thing.

  2. I too enjoy horses the most when I am standing on the ground.

  3. I have to say that most horse do not bite, kick or buck. And most horse-owners wouldn't throw a fit for feeding them. My little Dani loves people for just that reason. When she was newborn people would walk by or stop in their cars and feed her grass or a carrot. She is now once of the most spoiled... I mean loving horses I have ever had. I know a lot of people fear them (my mom and sister included) but they are just oversized lap dogs that have no intention of harming anyone. The ones who do try to do harm are the ones that some human has abused to the point of making it mean. Pitiful really. Ok- my tirade in defense of horses is over. I wish you could meet mine they are truly nice horses. Thanks for sharing your experiences and photos. He is a pretty horse altough I think they are all pretty!

  4. Thanks for that Caprice. My perspective has changed. I shall think of them as oversized lap dogs from now on.
And Marnie - any more of that and I'll take away your nose - bag!

  5. I feel the same way about horses! They are so huge, and in theory mostly docile but what if they decide not to be? Smoosh! Glad you still have all your fingers.

  6. Oh Neil, I wasn't trying to stirrup any trouble or rein on your parade. Take away my nose? That's the stuff of night mares!

  8. Nothing wrong with a bit of unbridled fun, Neil! It's the weekend and I'm chomping at the bit for my work day to end... but I guess in Scotland it's already pasture bedtime.
